1964 triumph tr4 special chassis no. Ct/32818-l engine no. One of the finest and most attractive tr4's we have ever offered! Produced between august 1961 and january 1965, the tr4 signaled the end of one era and the beginning of a new one for triumph. The tr4 retained the sound basic chassis design of the outgoing tr3a, combined with completely modern and aggressive bodywork designed by italy's giovanni michelotti. Driving dynamics improved as well, with precise rack-and-pinion steering and a synchromesh first gear. The tr4 had a number of racing successes in america; primarily through the efforts of the californian engineer kas kastner - including consecutive class wins at sebring. Meanwhile in europe and the uk during early to mid-sixties, the tr4 became a celebrated rally car. According to the british motor industry heritage trust, ct/32818-l was produced as a left-hand drive, north american export example, completed may 6, 1964 and dispatched on the 11th. Finished in new white over matador red leather and a black top, fitted equipment included: heater, goodyear whitewall tires, black tonneau cover, sunvisor, wood veneered facia and windscreen washers. The triumph was then shipped from tilbury docks, essex aboard the vessel kury lochus, to its destination dealer genser & forman inc. Offered here is a thoroughly striking example of the versatility these fantastic tr4's offer. Anglo-italian design, meets functional and comfortable period competitive driving. Ct/32818-l remains numbers-matching with original engine, body and livery. The car is exceptionally solid and honest throughout with excellent drivability, strong mechanicals and engine compression. A 2017 comprehensive inspection and tune-up was performed on the tr4 to assure continued instant enjoyment.

Actually, this car is a lot more substantial than the car it replaces and it might just be the most attractive 2-door sports car under $20,000 anywhere. Finish quality is pretty good and the base stock was surely in great shape, because it fits together better than a lot of these cars that were abused and neglected. Just imagine finishing a hard day at work and coming out to the parking lot to find this cheerful little roadster! There's little doubt that the tan leather interior on this tr4 is almost entirely original. For that reason alone, it's pretty cool, but don't expect perfection. Instead, think of it as broken-in, not worn out, with cool bucket seats with round lower cushions that make a really interesting design. Carpets, door panels, and the dash are likewise showing their age, but i don't know if i would be in a rush to replace any of it. The jaeger instruments are still in good shape and the basic switchgear still manages all the secondary controls. The top frame stows neatly in the rear package area and there's a fair-sized trunk with full-sized spare. The 2138 cc inline-4 features dual carburetors and about 90 horsepower, so it's got a decent power-to-weight ratio. The engine is a bit grumpy when it's cold, but get those dual side-draft carbs warmed up properly and it runs through the rev range with gusto. It's been maintained rather than rebuilt or restored, and these are tough little engines, so go out and have some fun without worrying about it.
