2001 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Looks are only the beginning. introductionthere's nothing on the road quite like chrysler's new pt cruiser, and that's a big part of its fun. People from all walks and stations want a better look, intrigued by the cruiser's difficult-to-define character.  yet the really great thing about the pt cruiser is its combination of practicality and a reasonable price. Chrysler turned the automotive industry on its ear when it launched the dodge viper and plymouth prowler. Those cars showcased chrysler's design trends. Viper and prowler are great cars for serious enthusiasts who don't mind making a few sacrifices in terms of comfort and convenience. But, in a way, the pt cruiser is even more exciting because it's a real car suitable for everyday use by everyday people. When it comes to automotive styling, however, pictures speak louder than words. Yet with 63 inches from pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser is also 7 inches taller than a neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the pt cruiser has a thorough complement of safety features. Front passenger side-impact airbags are standard on the limited edition and optional on the base car. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions-including the rear seat's center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like luxury cars, to keep the belts tight during an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. interiorinside, the cruiser's t-shaped symmetrical dashboard uses painted inserts to pull exterior styling themes into the cabin. The instrument panel is clean, functional and aesthetically pleasing. The driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. Switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials and a single pair of buttons for the front windows. The door levers have a nice action and the switches operate with good tactile feel -- not world class, but a noticeable improvement over chrysler's sloppy mid-'90s standard.  the same improvement applies to the interior finish. The leather package, in particular, has a rich appearance, given the cruiser's price, with suede inserts in the doors and along the lower cushion edges.  the front seats have a reasonable amount of bolster to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. Perhaps more important, the seating position is upright, with a fairly high, commanding view ahead, much like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. And with 120. 2 cubic feet of interior volume, there's no premium on space in the pt cruiser. The government's standard for defining a large car, like the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, is 120 cubic feet.  all that space is largely a function of the cruiser's height. Its roof rises toward the rear, and its rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front are. The front seats are mounted on tall boxes, leaving plenty of room for rear passengers to stretch their legs underneath. An auto critic who stands six feet-nine-inches tall fit comfortably front or rear, in his preferred upright seating position.  chrysler claims the pt cruiser's cabin can be configured 26 different ways. We didn't count, but there are clearly a lot of options. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed, a movable parcel shelf, and an available front passenger seat that folds flat. The rear seats are anchored with quick-release attachments, and fitted with suitcase-style handles for lifting and steel wheels for rolling. The smaller section weighs 35 pounds, and the larger, 65. The load floor measures 40 inches between the wheel wells. The rear cabin has lots of tie-downs, including a pair on the center pillars that can be used with various seat configurations.  the parcel shelf and front passenger seat increase hauling options. The shelf can be positioned at the top of the rear seatbacks for a standard privacy cover over the cargo hold. It can be lowered to a level that creates a flat floor when the rear seat backs are folded forward. In can be installed vertically across the width of the cabin to divide the cargo hold, or hung out of the tailgate as a small table. It can also be turned over so its hard-plastic underside acts like a large tray, containing drops from dripping paint cans or mud from work boots.  with the front passenger seatback folded flat onto the bottom cushion, there's a table next to the driver and in front of the rear passengers. Even better, there can be more than 8 feet of flat surface between the dashboard and the tailgate. It weighs 3123 pounds with the manual transmission, meaning each of its 150 horsepower pulls roughly 21 pounds of iron. The 2. 4 happens to be the base engine in chrysler's minivans; for the cruiser, improvements were geared toward reducing noise and vibration rather than increasing power. Peak horsepower remains at 150, with 162 foot-pounds of torque. The shifter is surprisingly precise; it's not sports-car grade, but not bad for a longer-throw gate with a lever that's a foot long. Working the gears to get the most from the engine is a pleasant proposition in nearly all circumstances.  the automatic isn't as effective as the five-speed at getting the cruiser cruising, because the 2. 4's power is biased toward higher rpm. With properly timed dips of the accelerator, there's enough torque for safe, clean overtaking on two-lane roads.  the cruiser handles more like a sedan than a minivan. It will hustle with good composure and reasonable verve. Body lean is well controlled. By design, the cruiser understeers moderately, a push that warns a driver to slow down through curves. The cruiser's strut-type independent front suspension is similar to the neon's. Its rear suspension design maximizes cargo space, but the solid rear axle bounces a bit on rough pavement. Overall, however, chrysler's suspension engineers have delivered a good balance of handling and a comfortable ride.  they've also done a fine job of masking the cruiser's height. Only in quick, hard, slalom-type maneuvers does the pt cruiser start get top heavy. Yet most drivers will never drive hard enough to notice. And in sudden, emergency-type lane changes, the pt cruiser is more composed than the typical sport-utility or minivan. At speeds beyond legal interstate limits, the cruiser is stable, and not particularly susceptible to cross winds.  a lack of noise may be the most impressive, or surprising, of all the pt cruiser's qualities. There is little wind noise, almost no tire or road noise, and just an audible whine from the drivetrain. It has better noise, vibration and harshness control than chrysler products of the mid- to late 1990s have conditioned us to expect.  front disc and rear drum brakes are standard. The cruiser is, however, a car. AM/FM✔ Power Windows✔ Tachometer✔ Climate Control✔ CD Changer✔ Aluminum Wheels✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Alloy Wheels

2005 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Top-down fun or wagon-like practicality in a gangstermobile. introductionchrysler pt cruiser combines the retro look of a late-'30s american sedan with modern performance, efficiency and features. The pt cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for its sprightly performance. The cruiser's taller body adds not only a unique look, but also extra room for people and cargo.  its interior volume and versatility compares well to a small suv. Yet the pt cruiser is shorter in length than a neon, making it easy to park. And it's easy on gas.  now in its fifth year, with annual sales of more than 100,000, the cruiser is a familiar sight, but people are still intrigued by it. For starters, it's difficult to define within existing automotive marketing segments, leading chrysler to call the pt cruiser too cool to categorize. That fire comes in the form of 220 horsepower in the gt; a more affordable 180-horsepower turbo is also available.  if there's anything cooler than the standard pt cruiser, it's the pt cruiser convertible. The base convertible 19,405) is similarly equipped. The gt also comes with side-impact airbags and most of the limited's luxury goodies. Leather sport seats and a power moonroof are also standard. The gt convertible 27,830) comes with all the limited and gt sedan goodies, except that its 17-inch wheels are painted rather than plated. The gt gets its chrome on its grille (optional on gt and limited sedans).  optional on both convertible models is an infinity premium sound system with an eight-channel amplifier and 368 watts peak power. Sirius satellite radio is optional 195, including a one-year subscribtion) on all but base models. Gps navigation 1100) is available on limited and gt; so is uconnect hands-free, in-vehicle communications 360), which uses bluetooth technology to link the user's cellular phone with the cruiser's stereo speakers. Limited sedans can be ordered with plastic woodgrain exterior accents 895) for the vintage town & country look. Many of the standard features on higher-line models are also available as options on the less expensive models.  the truly limited edition (with production capped at 1,700 units) pt dream cruiser series 4 convertible 30,085) features deep lava red paint, a maroon cloth convertible top, chrome grille accents and light pearl beige leather-upholstered performance seats. Seventeen-inch wheels. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930's american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses. But that's not all there is to the pt cruiser. The shape is intriguing, but underneath is a modern platform with front-wheel drive.  by exterior dimensions, the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's nearly 6 inches shorter than a neon. Yet with 63 inches from the pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser sedan is also 7 inches taller than the neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the gt sedan is distinguished from the other models by its chromed wheels, larger air intakes, and a spoiler on its liftgate. The spoiler 150) is optional on the limited.  the design of the convertible is quite a bit different from that of the sedan. The convertible looks shorter than the sedan, but isn't; maybe it's the single long door on each side that creates this illusion. It's certainly lower, by almost 3 inches. Closer examination reveals that the windshield is raked more radically and uses a different a-pillar design. With the top up, the convertible looks like a custom chopped-top hot rod. Pretty cool.  with its top down, the pt cruiser convertible's high tail and integrated sport bar remind us of the old volkswagen cabrio. But where the vw's side windows sealed against its symbolic roll bar (almost as on a prewar convertible sedan), the chrysler's windows seal against each other for a more modern convertible profile. Its slightly narrower and color-keyed sport bar sits behind the windows, inside the car, and is aerodynamically designed to minimize wind noise. A nice boot is provided that dresses up the appearance with the top down. The driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. The gt's silver-faced speedometer reads up to 140 mph, while the standard cruiser's speedo goes to 120. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The standard stereo sounds tinny; we haven't spent much time with the new infinity system. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets, fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The front seats in the three lower-line models have a reasonable amount of bolstering to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. The gt also features a leather wrapped steering wheel with satin-silver spokes, and bright accents on the pedals.  roominess is a virtue in the cruiser. The sedan's 121. 5 cubic feet of interior volume is comparable to that of large cars such as the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, though it certainly doesn't have the ambience of those cars. Much of that space is a function of the cruiser's height. The roof rises toward the rear like on a chopped-top hot r.

2008 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Retrowagon, and gangster convertible. introductionthe chrysler pt cruiser combines the retro look of late-'30s american iron with modern performance, efficiency and features. The pt cruiser comes in two body styles, a versatile five-door wagon and a not-so-versatile two-door convertible.  the five-door model's tall body boasts lots of room for people and cargo. In fact, its interior volume and versatility compare well to a small suv. Yet the pt cruiser is small and easy to park.  it's also easy on gas. The lower-level models are competitively priced, and we think they make the most sense.  the pt cruiser convertible is one of the least expensive convertibles on the market. Its trunk is tiny and awkward, however; in fact, we can't think of a trunk that's less convenient than the one on the cruiser convertible.  the pt cruiser doesn't fit within existing automotive marketing segments, but competes on some levels with the chevy hhr, the scion xb, and the mini cooper. Like them, it is essentially a car: the pt cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for sprightly performance. So it drives like a car, though the handling is not as good. Cruiser is an appropriate name.  chrysler has dropped the high-performance gt models for 2008. Frankly, we thought they were over-priced and favored the standard model that is still available.  new for 2008, a tire-pressure monitor and front side air bags are now standard on all models and the base wagon is now called lx. The 2008 limited model now has 17-inch wheels, the 2. 4-liter turbocharged engine, abs and traction control as standard equipment. lineupthe 2008 chrysler pt cruiser comes in two body styles: a five-door hatchback/wagon chrysler calls a sedan; and a two-door convertible. In all but the limited model the standard engine is tuned to deliver 150 horsepower. Many of the standard features on higher-line models are also available as options on the less expensive models.  safety features include dual front airbags; torso-protecting front side-impact airbags; and a tire-pressure monitor. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like in luxury cars, to tighten the belts for the initial stages of an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. Antilock brakes and traction control are standard on limited. They are also included with the optional turbocharged engine and are available as a $625 option for other models. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930s or early 1940s american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses.  the look was refined beginning with the 2006 models, but not drastically changed. The horizontal-themed grille does not extend below the bumper as on older models and it's topped by a prominent chrysler eagle and flanked by gently scalloped headlamps. Round foglights frame a horizontal slot in the bumper. Around back, a body-color spoiler on the liftgate is said to improve aerodynamic efficiency.  exterior dimensions indicate the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's shorter in overall length than most compact sedans, but it's relatively tall. Measuring 63 inches from the pavement to the highest point of its roof, it's nearly as tall as a minivan. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the design of the convertible is quite a bit different from that of the wagon. The convertible looks shorter than the wagon, but it isn't. Maybe it's the single long door on each side that creates this illusion. It's lower, however, by almost three inches, which certainly alters the looks. But there's a lot more to it than that: close examination reveals that the windshield is raked more radically and uses a different a-pillar design.  with the top up, the convertible looks like a custom chopped-top hot rod. And it looks pretty cool. Drop the top and the gangstermobile turns into a chick car. With its top down, the pt cruiser convertible's high tail and integrated sport bar remind us of the old volkswagen cabrio. But where the vw's side windows sealed against its sport bar, the chrysler's windows seal against each other for a more modern convertible profile. Its slightly narrower and color-keyed sport bar sits behind the windows, inside the car, and is aerodynamically designed to minimize wind noise. A nice boot is provided that dresses up the appearance with the top down. interiorthe chrysler pt cruiser pulls its exterior styling themes into the cabin, although here, too, the retro theme is tempered by a modern-looking center stack that visually splits the vintage-styled dashboard.  the driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right, and fuel and water temperature left. Accessory switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials at the bottom. Window switches are high in the center stack, inconvenient for quick operation, forcing the driver to search for them. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The standard stereo sounds tinny; we haven't tried the boston accoustics system. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets. It's fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The front seats have a reasonable amount of bolstering to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. The pt's console also includes a covered tray for concealing small items, a storage bin that holds six cds, a coin holder and fold-out cupholders for rear-seat coffee consumers.  roominess is a virtue in the cruiser. The wagon's 120. 5 cubic feet of interior volume is comparable to that of large cars such as the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, though it certainly doesn't have the ambience of those cars. Much of that space is a function of the cruiser's height.  to take advantage of this, the rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front. This theater seating, as it's called, affords the back-seat passengers a better view forward. Rear passengers also can stretch their legs underneath the front seats, which are mounted on tall boxes. A 6-foot, 9-inch passenger can fit comfortably in the front or rear seats.  the cabin of the pt cruiser wagon can be configured 26 different ways. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed, a movable parcel shelf in t.

2012 chrysler 300 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Whether v6 or v8 and regardless of model it's a roomy, comfortable, quiet cruiser. Some new models have joined the lineup for 2012: a stylish chrysler 300s, the new chrysler 300c luxury series, and a new chrysler 300 srt8 super-sedan.  the chrysler 300s is a sportier 300, with 20-inch wheels and firmer suspension.  2012 chrysler 300 v6 models offer a new 8-speed automatic transmission from zf that makes the hemi v8-powered car nearly irrelevant. With this new transmission, the v6 gets an epa-estimated 31 mpg highway.  a new, optional navigation system is the best we've ever seen, with a large, 8. 4-inch screen that's easily understood at a glance and easy to operate. We highly recommend opting for it. Also new for 2012 are the usual assortment of color and wheel design upgrades, and not one but new sound system upgrades.  the chrysler 300 has all the heritage traits of an american luxury sedan such as room, comfort, endless features and amenities, power and a degree of presence, yet is also has good road manners, stops and changes directions as well as it goes. It also has a distinctive look ever harder to find in this era of economy-driven aerodynamics, pedestrian impact standards and corporate styling.  all-wheel drive is available. The ride height on 2012 chrysler 300 awd models is slightly lower than on 2011 models.  the chrysler 300 comes in nearly any combination of v6 or v8 engine, 5- or 8-speed automatic, and rear- or all-wheel drive.  the 2012 chrysler 300 srt8 model comes packed with a 470-hp 6. 4-liter v8 (only a corvette zo6's is larger), brembo brakes, forged alloy wheels, and bilstein adaptive dampers similar to those maserati uses. It's quick and good bang for the buck.  consideration for the chrysler 300 covers a wide spectrum including the cadillac cts, lincoln mks, lexus gs, infiniti m, hyundai genesis, volvo s60, bmw 3 series by price or 5 series by size, and mercedes c and e classes for the same criteria. A 300c awd can compete with ford's taurus sho. At about $47,000, the srt8 is a cost-effective sports sedan alternative to cadillac's cts-v, bmw's m-cars and mercedes-benz's amg e-class. Available for any 300 are ivory pearl paint 500) and an engine-block heater 40). (all prices are manufacturer's suggested retail prices, which do not include destination charge and may change at any time without notice.)  chrysler 300 limited 32,170) upgrades to leather upholstery, 8-speed automatic, remote start, fog lamps, 18-inch wheels, 276-watt alpine audio system, power passenger seat, and heated front seats. Chrysler 300 limited awd 34,320) features all-wheel drive, bigger brakes and 19-inch wheels. The luxury group 3,250) includes fancier leather, olive wood trim, heated/cooled front seats and cupholders, heated rear seats, wood and leather wrapped heated power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power adjustable pedals, driver memory system, power rear sunshade and auto-dimming exterior mirrors. A safetytec package 2,420) adds adaptive cruise control with collision warning, adaptive bi-xenon smartbeam headlamps, blind-spot and cross-path detection, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear park sensors, and rear fog lamps.  chrysler 300c 38,170) and 300c awd 40,320) come with a 363-hp 5. 7-liter v8, 5-speed automatic and bigger brakes. Standard equipment mirrors the 300 limited with luxury group and navigation, but with olive wood optional. Also available: premium audio systems, safetytec package, moonroof, 19 and 20-inch wheels.  chrysler 300s comes with a choice of v6 8-speed automatic 33,170) with awd 35,320); v8 5-speed automatic 39,710) with awd 41,320). S denotes body-color trim with gloss-black grille and headlight trim, matte carbon and piano-black cabin trim, 300s logo on cloth (v6) or leather (v8) seats, and the beats by dr. The s v8 also gets rear sunshade, rain-sensing wipers, and performance-tuned steering. 300s options include uconnect with 8. 4-inch touch screen, garmin navigation, sirius travel link with real time traffic and sirius satellite radio 795).  chrysler 300 srt8 47,170) comes with a 470-hp 6. 4-liter v8, five-speed automatic, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, bilstein adaptive damping, and unique suspension and stability control calibration, brakes and tires. It also includes new nose and tail sections, sport seats with suede inserts, srt-specific instrumentation and driver information, and a one-day driving experience on track with professional driver instruction. Srt8 carries a $1,000 federal gas guzzler tax.  safety equipment on the chrysler 300 includes front, front side, driver knee, and side curtain air bags, electronic stability control with brake assist, and tire pressure monitoring system. The optional safetytec package groups several safety features together. Optional all-wheel drive improves stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe front of the chrysler 300 looks like a large sedan version of the chrysler 200 midsize sedan and town & country minivan, with many of the same visual cues in the grille, headlamps, air intakes and front bumper. It's much sleeker and more rounded at the nose, but carries a much lower aerodynamic drag coefficient because of the rounded elements and the very laid-back windshield angle. Neither the windshield nor the rear window carries any bright moldings at all, unusual for a luxury car, but it works on the 300.  on the s and srt versions a gloss-black grille and headlight housings framed against monochrome bodywork; it's hard to imagine understated and menacing applied to the same car but that's how it looks. Add in big dark wheels and the s and srt versions deliver the aggressiveness of an amg e-class or cadillac cts-v with more elegant machinery like a bentley gt. We have mixed feelings about the styling, especially that of the 300 srt8. It looks like an upscale hot rod, but we're not sure it quite pulls it off. The styling seems to work best on the standard models.  the profile of the chrysler 300 shows pronounced wheel lips front and rear, and they are connected by a sharp body line that starts at the trailing edge of the front wheel well and rises continuously to finish at the side of the tail lamps. That line, coupled with the larger side windows, narrower pillars, and another sculpted line at the bottom of the doors, does wonders to slim down and muscle up the look of the 300.  at the rear, there's a chrome bar running across the bottom edge of the decklid between the new vertical led taillamps and a tall, flat rear bumper between the exhaust outlets that widens the look of the car at the rear. The execution of the led daytime running lights at the front and the led rear lamps is excellent. The s and srt have deeper panels and a lip spoiler for stability. One of the more pleasant surprises in the chrysler 300 is the amount of light entering the car.  the interior environment is classy without being fussy, and the led lighting and instrumentation are spot-on. Upholstery can be cloth, leather, or suede and leather on srt8 and trim is faux wood, real wood, carbon-fiber or piano black lacquer style; interior adornment is generally matte-finish chrome so annoying reflections are minimal.  the instrument panel contains a bright gauge package, with crisp graphics and ice-blue accent lighting that is brilliantly legible day or night.  the center stack is dominated by a large (8. 4-inch) touch-screen control system, with audio and climate functions. Optional is a brilliantly colorful, large-icon garmin navigation system. This system, because of its size, graphics, and capabilities, may be the best all-around nav system currently available, easy to read, easy to use, and often readable from the back seat. We highly recommend it. Turn onto beaver brook road and in big type at the top of the screen it says, 'driving on beaver brook road.' we love it.  the 300's new fo. 2007 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Retrowagon, and gangster convertible. introductionthe chrysler pt cruiser combines the retro look of late-'30s american iron with modern performance, efficiency and features. The pt cruiser comes in two body styles, a versatile five-door model and a not-so-versatile two-door convertible.  after a significant facelift for 2006, the 2007 chrysler pt cruiser remains relatively the same with a few additions to colors and features. New for 2007 are a few additional exterior colors and features, including a now-standard remote keyless entry on the base model and a standard console flood lamp on all models. The power liftgate comes standard for 2007.  the five-door model's tall body boasts lots of room for people and cargo. In fact, its interior volume and versatility compare well to a small suv. Yet the pt cruiser is small and easy to park.  it's also easy on gas. The lower-level models are competitively priced, and we think they make the most sense. Turbocharged models put fire under the hood, but they're pricey.  the pt cruiser convertible is one of the least expensive convertibles on the market. Cruiser is an appropriate name. lineupthe 2007 chrysler pt cruiser comes in two body styles: a five-door hatchback/wagon chrysler calls a sedan; and a two-door convertible. Both prices include automatic transmission; a manual gearbox is not available with this engine. The gt also comes with side-impact airbags, a power glass sunroof, and most of the limited's luxury goodies. Leather sport seats are also standard. The gt convertible 29,825) comes with all the limited and gt sedan goodies.  optional on all convertibles and on limited and gt sedans is a 368-watt boston acoustics premium sound system 695). Sirius satellite radio is optional on all models 195, including a one-year subscribtion). Gps navigation 1,100) is available on limited and gt; so is uconnect hands-free, in-vehicle communications 360), which uses bluetooth technology to link the user's cellular phone with the cruiser's stereo speakers. Limited sedans can be ordered with plastic woodgrain exterior accents 895). Many of the standard features on higher-line models are also available as options on the less expensive models.  safety features include front side-impact airbags, standard in gt and limited and optional 390) on the other models. Three-point safety harnesses are provided at all positions, including the rear center position, so be sure to wear them. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like in luxury cars, to tighten the belts for the initial stages of an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930s or early 1940s american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses.  the look was refined beginning with the 2006 models, but not drastically changed. The horizontal-themed grille does not extend below the bumper as on older models and it's topped by a prominent chrysler eagle and flanked by gently scalloped headlamps. Round foglights frame a horizontal slot in the bumper. Around back, a body-color spoiler on the liftgate is said to improve aerodynamic efficiency.  in terms of exterior dimensions, the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's shorter in overall length than most compact sedans, but it's relatively tall. Measuring 63 inches from the pavement to the highest point of its roof, it's nearly as tall as a minivan. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the design of the convertible is quite a bit different from that of the sedan. The convertible looks shorter than the sedan, but it isn't; maybe it's the single long door on each side that creates this illusion. A nice boot is provided that dresses up the appearance with the top down. interiorthe pt cruiser pulls its exterior styling themes into the cabin, although here, too, the retro theme is tempered a bit by a very modern-looking center stack that visually splits the vintage-styled dashboard.  the driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right, and fuel and water temperature left. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets, fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The gt also features a leather wrapped steering wheel with satin-silver spokes, and bright accents on the pedals.  the center console incorporates a sliding armrest, replacing the seat-mounted armrests provided previously. The pt's console also includes a covered tray for concealing small items, a storage bin that holds six cds, a coin holder and fold-out cup holders for rear-seat coffee consumers. A cell-phone charger is optional.  roominess is a virtue in the cruiser. The sedan's 120. 5 cubic feet of interior volume is comparable to that of large cars such as the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, though it certainly doesn't have the ambience of those cars. Much of that space is a function o.
