It's hard to call something this small imposing but it definitely has presence, so we'll say that it's definitely purposeful. Stripped down to only the bare essentials, it's like the bodywork was shrink-wrapped over the mechanicals. There's plenty of metallic in the finish, so it has a depth and shine that makes it look expensive and there's not much evidence that it's been used for the past 21,762 miles. That translates to less than 2000 miles per year and it shows. Lotus's panel fit and assembly quality has made great leaps and strides since the dark days of the 1970s Esprits. There's no bright trim to speak of, although we like the elongated headlights up front and simple round taillights out back, along with the many vents and cooler openings that help keep the engine comfortable. It all comes back to purposeful. Nevertheless, the Elise's mission is plain to see: more speed. The thin-shell seats are like racing buckets, the steering wheel hangs in space well away from the dash, and the backbone of the car is exposed as it merges into the shifter tower. Big white-faced gauges are reminiscent of a race car, too, and the use of exotic competition materials is left out in the open for everyone to see. The lift-off soft top provides protection in case of inclement weather and there's adequate storage in the forward and aft trunks. The valve cover shows Lotus's name and they do get credit for the tuning and software, and it gives the Elise a very unique personality that's 100% Lotus. There are also hundreds of modifications and upgrades for these cars, but this one has none, preferring to go the stock route that enhances durability and means that this Elise should run practically forever. It's been properly maintained and there's a fantastic sensation of endless acceleration thanks to a sky-high redline. The exhaust has a fantastic guttural tone and those big. 1966 lotus elan se roadster --cirrus white and black interior, black carpeting and black convertible top, 40,554 original miles, 5-speed manual transmission, collector owned. During the 1965/1966 model years the standard chassis fitments included servo assisted brakes, lotus knock-on wheels, revised shock absorbers for improved high speed handling and radial high speed tires. This particular 1966 lotus elan s3 “special equipment” was purchased from its first owner in 1969 with 2,000 miles on the odometer at the time. The elan s3 was then carefully maintained and used seasonally as the owner’s prized possession for 45 years until he decided to sell in 2014 to another lotus collector and enthusiast. The original paint still shows very well with natural aged patina throughout. The interior has clearly benefited from dry storage and excellent care over the years, its wooden veneers showing little signs, even given the car is now 61 years old! The leather is still supple and soft and the carpets remain in excellent condition. After purchasing the lotus in 2014, it was decided to complete a full engine rebuild which included upgrading the crank seal. Given the age of the car and freshly rebuilt engine, a new gas tank was installed and the webber carburetors rebuilt and tuned. To ensure enjoyment in the hotter summer days, a larger radiator was installed to reduce any chance of overheating in traffic. The differential was rebuilt and new dave bean fast road suspension with cv joints installed together with an overhaul and upgrading of the braking system with more reliable but correct modern components. This lotus elan s3 “special equipment” surely represents a rare opportunity to acquire an excellent survivor that has benefited from a meticulously careful 45-year ownership and more recently treated to a mechanical overhaul. It is complete with books and tools, tonneau cover and soft top and ready for immediate use.

The lotus elise s2 type 25 details the lotus elise type 25 embodies the heritage that is lotus' remarkable formula one history. Turning away from the 'then standard' tubular spaceframe, colin chapman, inspired by the elan chassis, created the first monocoque racing car by sketching the design on a napkin over lunch with mike costin (also of cosworth fame). Virtually built around jim clark, the car was secretly constructed in a small area of the then lotus headquarters at cheshunt and made it's debut at the 1962 dutch grand prix. The end of the season saw lotus failing to win the championship by one point, a fantastic achievement by a radically new and different car, but the following season was to get even better. Clark and lotus finished the 1963 season with maximum points securing both the drivers and constructors world championships. The same aluminium chassis and grp body panel principles that were used in the construction of the type 25 race car are now used to create the elise, with the same principles of performance through lightweight and low capacity, high output engines at the heart of it's engineering. The elise type 25, built to commemorate the revolutionary racecar, mirrors its design, painted in lotus racing green with a yellow stripe running front to back. Unique black lotus styled wheels complete the racing look from the exterior. Inside, echoing the original, the interior includes ruby red leather and black alcantara seats, door panels.
