Holding a unique place in american - and foreign - car history, the ascender was part of the historical partnership between isuzu and general motors. Introduced for the 2003 model year, this isuzu was a re-badged gmc envoy / chevrolet trailblazer. It was built to replace the aging isuzu trooper. The ascender was assembled in the same united states moraine, ohio, production plant as the other gmt360 suvs such as the chevrolet trailblazer, gmc envoy and buick rainier; and shared many components with its platform mates. To set it apart from 'the pack' of its gm american-model cousins, the isuzu featured specific trim, badging, along with front & rear styling that gave it a more upscale look than the trailblazer. Equipped with a gm vortec 4200 ll8 4. 2-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, it had original factory specifications of 275 horsepower and 275 lb ft of torque while still returning a good suv fuel-mileage rating of up to 21 mpg highway. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 5,500 pounds. Needless to say, having this much power in a mid-sized suv makes it much quicker than the average suv.
