The ford thunderbird began life in february 1953 in direct response to chevrolet's new sports car, the corvette, which was publicly unveiled in prototype form just a month before. Under rapid development, the thunderbird went from idea to prototype in about a year, being unveiled to the public at the detroit auto show on february 20, 1954. Production of the thunderbird began later in 1954 on september 9 with the car beginning sales as a 1955 model on october 22, 1954. Though sharing some design characteristics with other fords of the time, such as single, circular headlamps and tail lamps and modest tailfins, the thunderbird was sleeker and more athletic in shape, and had features like a faux hood scoop and a 140-mph speedometer hinting a higher performance nature that other fords didn't possess. This thunderbird has undergone a partial restoration, and is in fantastic driver quality condition. The list of mechanicals that have been modified are: the 312 cid ford engine was swapped out in 1974 with a 350 cid chevrolet engine to provide a little more get up and go for this classy chassis. It is paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission that was also added in 1974. The car has 2 known owners and was restored back in 1998 by the latest owner to preserve this piece if history. The exterior is in good condition and would get some heads turning driving down the road. The interior of the car is in good original condition with a few small additions such as the engine turned aluminum dash to improve the appearance. Some additional features include power steering, power windows, white walls, cassette, am/fm radio, and power seats. All in all, this adds up to a clean light blue bird that really is a joy to drive. It is hard to not look good driving a thunderbird, especially when it is a t-bird that looks this good. Power Windows✔ Power Seats✔ AM/FM

A 6 year project, 2 of which was spent researching authenticity of every part. A complete nut and bolt frame off rotisserie restoration. Every detail is correct. All panel fitments and gaps are perfect. This 57, built in september of 56 like other early models, utilized the left over 56 parts inventory. Such as the coil, power steering cylinder, horns etc. Only an experienced judge will judge it correctly. Never driven since restoration except for in and out of trailer and in driveways. No road rash or storage rash of any kind. Not a single mark on this car to date. Always stored in climate controlled building.

Vehicle is equipped with a 312 cu in. Y block V-8 and a Warner T-85, 3 speed standard transmission with overdrive. Frame off restoration started in 2003. Vehicle was back together in 2005. Less than 1000 miles since it was done. True mileage is not known, odometer shows Frame sandblasted and painted. Front suspension, brakes and steering rebuilt. New stainless fuel and brake lines. All new dual exhaust. Engine rebuilt and transmission overhauled. Transmission low and reverse gear were repaired because replacement parts are not available and there is minor gear noise in low or reverse, does not effect driveability. Rear axle is original condition no known problems. Body was restored, new body mounts, floors and rocker panels. Some new ornamentation. Vent frames, grille and bumpers rechromed. New "ABC" interior done in original style cloth and vinyl. Installation of interior by professional trim shop. All glass is original with a mark in the windshield. New heater core and water temperature valve. I did not connect heater hoses because it was not driven in the winter. Car is done using original design items. The only aftermarket items are the under dash water temperature, oil pressure and ammeter gauges. Car runs and drives with no known problems. Vehicles is complete but has some minor work to finish entirely. Radio and clock do not work. Some minor chrome trim imperfections that need to be corrected if a "show car". I would invite personal inspections to any interested bidder. I will also attempt to answer any questions. Vehicle is sold as-is, where-is. NO warranty is given. I do not make shipping arrangements. No international shipping.

Great looking Coral and White hardtop. Good color combination with matching interior. Car was restored and driven very little. Shows 2,080 miles since done. It was used for local car shows and has NSRA safety 23 sticker from local show. Body is real straight and paint is excellent. Bumpers where rechromed and bumper guards and holes removed for a smooth look. As pictures show there where a few other changes to give it a cleaner look. Front and rear emblems where removed from hood and truck. Headlight doors where removed and custom taillight lenses. Also has recessed power antenna. Car has great look and draws a lot of attention when driven and at shows. Stock wheels painted body color with stock original hubcaps.
