This 2006 shelby is a rare find. One of just 500 produced, it's got a pedigree that sets it apart from other limited edition models and is a modern-day representation of a unique chapter in automotive history. With less than 10,000 miles logged, it's also in the absolute prime of its life - broken in and ready to create countless memories on the roads ahead. This snake draws both inspiration and its model designation from a particularly inventive car rental concept - hertz' "rent a racer" program (which really must've been an absolute blast to take part in). Dating back to 1966, it was a simple idea, really: muscle car enthusiasts could go to designation hertz locations and rent a shelby-modified mustang to drive, shall we say, "enthusiastically". Sporting the same black and gold color scheme of its forefathers, this is a really sharp-looking ride. A pair of broad, gold stripes runs down its center, just as with the original more than five decades ago. We're pretty used to seeing aftermarket mustangs on the road, but this one simply doesn't look quite like any of them. A set of hoodpins adorns the scooped hood and, with its aggressive air dam and signature aluminum grill, it's got an obvious uniqueness from every angle. Owing to both its unusually low miles and good care, it's looking great, as well. The deep black paint shines, the aluminum grill sparkles and those signature graphics still look fresh. The rear spoiler further confirms the aggressive nature of this car, but with its matching black paint and tasteful profile, it blends in perfectly and only adds to the profile. From front to back, the black leather upholstery retains its original shape and firmness and looks great sitting on the sea of matching black carpeting, with a set of commemorative gold-emblazoned carroll shelby 40th anniversary floor mats gracing the front. Its front power bucket seats are especially well-designed-supportive and nicely bolstered. Take a look at the back seat and it's obvious this ride didn't see much in the way of car pools. No wrinkles from bearing passengers, just the smooth shininess of leather. The brushed aluminum look of the dash area remains unspoiled and bears the telltale carroll shelby signature and production number - further proof of its rarity. The well-regarded shaker 500 system comes with am/fm, cd and satellite radio. There's also an anti-theft device, a tilt wheel and cruise control and power windows and doors. The a/c blows nice and cold, too. It's one thing to turn out a model with a special look to its exterior, but the special features on this very limited-edition car carry through to its drivetrain, as well. The already potent 4. 6 liter engine benefits from a cold air intake (that front air dam isn't just for show) and x pipes in the exhaust, upping its power output to 325hp and 320 foot/lbs. It's power that readily shows itself in terms of real performance, as this model cracks 5 seconds 0-60 and clocks an impressive mid 13 in the quarter. It's connected to a very well-engineered tremec 3650 5 speed automatic overdrive transmission that provides not only performance, but low rpms on the highway as well. Here's a rare chance to nab a highly collectible car with unusually low miles and bearing the name synonymous with state of the art muscle car performance.
