This 1973 detamaso pantera l received an extensive body on restoration in 2014-2015. The work was performed by renowned pantera specialist, p. Motorsports of orange, california. Starting with a solid, dry, rust free southern california estate car purchased by jerry sackett of p. Motorsports, the car underwent a thorough mechanical restoration. The current owner purchased this car from p. Motorsports, who finished it according to his preferences. The suspension and brakes were completely refurbished. The drive line was refreshed and the numbers matching ford 351 cleveland engine and 5-speed zf transaxle are in perfect operating condition. The original 15” factory campagnolo wheels were professionally restored and clad with fresh toyo proxes rubber. The air conditioning system was completely refurbished and all of the exterior and interior lighting as well as all of the gauges and indicators are in proper working order. Prepared cars, the coarse restorations are parked and finished per customer preference. Among the finishing mechanical touches on this car were polished detomaso valve covers, sermatech coated pi headers, stainless steel tubes into big throat polished muffler/tail pipes. The car sits on its original monocoque structure and was stripped to its original sheet metal and refinished to a high standard from a gold color back to its original white color. The large rubber “l” bumpers were removed and converted to early “pre l” chrome bumpers. All new weather stripping was fitted. The dash and door panels are all original and unrestored and in very good condition. All glass is original and in perfect condition. Window lifts are smooth and powerful. A working period aftermarket am/fm cassette is fitted. New front trunk area and cockpit carpet, headliner and leather upholstered seats complete the restoration. Over the 20 years of production, 7260 cars were built between 1971 and 1992. The early cars with their chrome bumpers are considered the purest interpretation. The “l”, for luxury models were introduced in 1972 bringing many upgrades and improvements but also brought the large rubber bumpers to meet us crash standards. This car benefits from those improvements to the build quality, and interior. This american brute in an italian suit fires right up and idles with a satisfying lope. The clutch is heavy but modulates smoothly. The dog leg 5-speed moves with authority through the gates. Even at low rpm the available torque hints at what lies under a heavy foot. The throttle response is startling and the roar of the big pushrod v8 rewarding. This car is fast, but is also very drivable. The simple character of the ford v8 vs the sophisticated nature of its 100% italian competitors made these cars more suitable to daily driving and orders of magnitude more reliable. Until recently panteras languished in the automotive marketplace, unappreciated by collectors, trading regularly in the $30k-$40k range. Those days have passed as evidenced by their ascension into six figure hammer prices for the best examples. Many were heavily modified ala countach style with bulging fenders, large wings and wildly powerful forced induction power plants. Many more succumbed to rust and neglect. A matching numbers car like this that has stayed true to the original character of the car has gained favor with collectors and enthusiasts alike. Motorsports believes the indicated 37,000 miles to be actual. This stunning example is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic. AM/FM✔ Air Conditioning
