Introduced in prototype form at the 1954 new york international motor sport show alongside the 300sl “gullwing”, the mercedes benz 190sl was the brainchild of legendary u. This particular car was purchased by maria cristina estebez labastida in mexico city on december 20, 1956. The original bill of sale and other ownership records come with the purchase. there is an extensive file of owners, service, taxes and license receipts paid in mexico. In 2016 the car was restored which included: new paint, new leather interior, new carpet, new soft top, and new boot cover. carburetors were removed and rebuilt with show quality detail. radiator, brakes, suspension upgraded as necessary. Only 75,331 km (46,800 miles) from new! Current odometer readings are required for advertising but will be sold "exempt" due to age sold as-is with no warranty offered or implied.

The production run ran between 1955 to 1963 concurrent with the 300 sl production. More than 26,000 sls found owners during the 190s seven year production run. The car appears to have had a straight solid body and thus the car requiring only sympathetic cosmetic upgrades new canvas top, exterior paint, bright work, and new green leather interior. A full mechanical inspection and repairs were performed. New tires and brakes keep the car on the road and bring it to a safe stop. This car truly does run and drive as good as it looks. The motor and transmission are very strong with less than 180,000 miles and driven less than 7,500 miles per year. This car is a daily driver and it is an absolute pleasure to drive. I recently purchased the car from the original owner 2 years ago. The car has been well taken care of with all service records present and it is very clean and 100% original, including the paint! The car has good brakes, suspension, tires, new battery and has recently been inspected. The a/c works and blows cold. Current known issues are: the engine stalls at red lights and stop signs occasionally but very seldom, the rear driver side window will not roll all the way up, the drivers door lock does not work with the key, the cruise control does not work, the engine runs a little hot during the summer but the temperature does return to normal when the fan kicks on. There are minor imperfections in the interior and minor dings and paint wear, all imperfections are representative of a 25 year old car, including some fading on the exterior. The kenwood radio works well and so does the power antenna but the radio will cut off sometimes unexpectedly, probably due to a loose wire. The sunroof works but one corner does not close flush with the roof, there are no leaks from the sunroof. The power seats work with the exception of the passenger side power head rest. The issues that the car has are very minor and typical of these cars and are easy fixes. The car does not smoke but does leak a little bit of oil. This car can very easily be restored and can be driven and enjoyed while doing so. I have truly enjoyed owning this mercedes and was going to restore it but i have decided to sell the vehicle. The car has been garage kept and is very presentable for being 25 years old! It is very hard to find a red mercedes with this very desirable color combination and in this condition! This car needs a little tlc from someone that loves mercedes and a few minor and quick repairs. The repairs i would recommend would be to replace the engine gaskets simply due to its age, cruise control module, catalytic converter, a good tune up and the other minor issues mentioned above. This car can easily be brought back to near showroom condition with a paint respray. These cars are about to start climbing in value as many of them are now hitting the 25 year mark! This car was over engineered and designed to travel 300,000 miles or more. I have tried to be as truthful and honest as possible regarding the condition of the car and my feedback score of over 1500 with a 100% positive rating speaks for itself. Power comes from the factory twin carbureted m121 4-cylinder engine paired with the factory 4-speed gearbox. This car was recently obtained from the long time 2nd owner here in dallas, texas. We have documentation including the original owners & instructional manual along with a few photos of the original owner with the car in 1959. We have the original twin solex carburetors and charging generator in boxes, although these parts were replaced with upgraded units for reliability sake. An alternator is currently providing the charge. According to the owner, the mileage of 67,484 is believed original to the car.
